Skipper’s Voyage Highlight: Alaskan Cruise

Embarking on an Alaskan cruise is a journey into the heart of nature’s pristine beauty and rich history. Before we dive into the mesmerizing ports of call, let’s explore the embarkation options that set the stage for this unforgettable journey.

Embarkation Port Options:

Round Trip Seattle- Known as the Emerald City, Seattle boasts a mix of urban sophistication and scenic beauty. Explore the historic Pike Place Market, ascend the Space Needle, or take a stroll along the waterfront.

Space Needle & Chihuly Glass Gardens in Seattle, Washington

Pros: Convenience of starting and ending in the same U.S. city (This means U.S. citizens can sail with original birth certificate and drivers license). No need for international travel arrangements. Ample pre and post-cruise activities in Seattle, from the iconic Space Needle to the bustling Pike Place Market.

Cons: Misses out on some northern Alaskan ports, unable to sail through the inside passage and less time at port when stopping in Victoria, B.C.

Open Jaw Victoria, B.C. to Seward (Northbound)- A blend of British charm and Canadian spirit. Wander through the Butchart Gardens, explore the historic Inner Harbors, or visit the Royal BC Museum. It's a touch of British elegance before our journey concludes.

Pros: Experience a broader range of destinations. Explore the charm of Victoria before setting sail. Dive deep into Alaskan wilderness, ending in the scenic town of Seward.

Cons: Requires two separate flight arrangements. You also might need to handle customs and travel logistics. For example, Seward is a small port town. The nearest Airport would be Anchorage. This requires a train or bus ride to get there.

Open Jaw Seward to Victoria, B.C. (Southbound)- Gateway to the Kenai Fjords National Park. Embark on a glacier cruise, visit the Alaska Sea Life Center, or simply enjoy the picturesque coastal views.

Pros: Start with the rugged beauty of Alaska, gradually transitioning to the milder climates of British Columbia. Opportunity to explore Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, before embarking.

Cons: Requires two separate flight arrangements. You also might need to handle customs and travel logistics. Also, traveling Southbound the days will become shorter with less hours of sunlight.

Cruise Myth-busters: 💬

Let’s navigate through some common misconceptions that often cloud the horizon. Welcome to Cruise Myth-busters, where we will anchor down the truths and dispel the myths of cruising!

1. Myth: The Northern Lights only appear during winter.

Fact: While they're more common in winter, with the right conditions, you can witness this spectacle even in other seasons! The best time to see the aurora borealis in Alaska is from August 21 to April 21. We call it the Aurora Season. The best views are typically more inland near Fairbanks!

2. Myth: All cruise food is buffet-style and mediocre. Plus you are forced to eat at specific times.

Fact: NCL offers a truly “Freestyle Dining” experience. You are able to dine any time you’d like from 5-9pm each night and have the flexibility to be seated with the party of your choosing. While buffets are a staple on many ships, there is also a variety of dining options, from specialty restaurants to even sports bar and grills. Many cruise lines collaborate with renowned chefs to curate gourmet menus.

2. Myth: Cruises are boring and have limited activities geared towards old people.

Fact: Cruises cater to a wide range of age groups, from families with kids to young couples and solo travelers. Modern cruise ships are like floating cities, packed with entertainment options such as theaters, comedy clubs, water slides, spas and more. Plus, shore excursions with a plethora of adventures and varying activity levels at each port.
